Happy Full Moon Halloween!
Tonight’s full moon is just perfect for a spooky Halloween!
Did you know...
The last time we had a full moon on Halloween was 1944. On average, we have a full moon on Halloween every nineteen years, but it has certainly been a while!
It’s the second full moon in October, so that makes it a Blue Moon. I always thought the term “blue moon” had something to do with the color, but a couple of years ago I learned that wasn’t the case at all
It’s also a Micro Moon because it is the furthest from the earth it will be all year. Remember the moon follows an elliptical path around the earth, not a circular one. The micro moon is the opposite of a super moon. During a super moon, the moon is about 223,694 miles from the earth. During the micro moon, the moon is about 251,655 miles from the earth.
And the second full moon post-Autumnal Equinox makes it the Beaver Moon! The name most likely comes as this is the time for trappers to set beaver traps before the hard freeze sets in.
So enjoy tonight’s beautiful full-blue-micro-beaver moon and happy Halloween!
